HOW LONG CAN I KEEP MY UNOPENED HELLMANN’S® JARS AND CONTAINERS?

Your Hellmann’s® product will have a date stamped on the label that says “Best When Used By”. For optimum quality and freshness, we encourage you to use it by this date.

IS THE DATE ON THE LABEL AN ACTUAL EXPIRATION DATE?

Quality is always a priority at Hellmann's®. The date stamped on the label is the date that assures the product's optimum and consistent quality and is your best guide to freshness. It will generally maintain good quality for 4 weeks after the "best by" date on the label, assuming recommended storage conditions (less than 20 degrees Celsius) have been maintained.

CAN THE HELLMANN'S® ½ THE FAT BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE HELLMANN’s REAL MAYONNAISE?

In most cases, Hellmann's® ½ The Fat can be used in the same way as Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise. Hellmann’s® Cholesterol Free cannot be substituted for Hellmann's® Real Mayonnaise or Hellmann’s® ½ The Fat when baking due to its low fat content. When baking with mayonnaise, it is always best to use recipes developed specifically for mayonnaise, such as those on hellmanns.ca.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO STORE MY MAYONNAISE? CAN I FREEZE IT?

Your mayonnaise should be refrigerated after opening. Storage conditions (temperature) will affect product quality. High temperatures will accelerate the loss of fresh flavour. Exposure to cold (near freezing temperatures) can change the consistency, texture, and thickness, and may cause separation. In addition, the container may break due to the expansion of product in the container. Therefore we do not recommend freezing. For best dispensing, we recommend storing squeeze bottles upside down.

IS IT SAFE TO TAKE FOODS PREPARED WITH MAYONNAISE ON PICNICS?

We recommend the following to help keep all "picnic food" safe:

Mayonnaise by itself contains ingredients such as vinegar, lemon juice, salt and a preservative, which inhibits the growth of bacteria. Many of the foods that are typically used with mayonnaise, such as chicken, ham, or potatoes, are much more susceptible to bacterial growth than mayonnaise itself. When combined with mayonnaise, they can reduce the effectiveness of the preservatives in the mayonnaise. An environment that enables harmful bacteria to grow is created when these food combinations are stored in non-refrigerated temperatures.

WHERE CAN I BUY YOUR HELLMANN’S® SALAD DRESSINGS?

Hellmann's® Salad Dressings are available only in food service outlets, such as restaurants and cafeterias. They are not available to purchase at local grocery stores.

DO HELLMANN’S PRODUCTS CONTAIN GLUTEN?

Because products are changed from time to time, we do not maintain a "Gluten Free" list of products. Gluten will, however, be listed on package if present in the product. Therefore, the label should be consulted for the most up-to-date information.

Hellmann's® Real Mayonnaise, Hellmann's® ½ The Fat, Hellmann's® Cholesterol Free Mayonnaise, Hellmann’s® With Olive Oil, Hellmann’s® With Olive Oil Light, and Hellmann’s® Creamy Dijonnaise Mayonnaise.

ARE THE HELLMANN'S® PRODUCTS KOSHER?

All varieties of Hellmann’s® are KOSHER certified (MK on label).
